Lab 3 Data Collections and Projections

This week we worked with Projections and ArcGIS Field Maps. For the projections we learned how flat maps are taken from a round object also known as the Earth. From this lab we learned that certain projections create distortions depending on how the map information is collected and the distortions can change the area, direction, and shape highlighting the issues with transposing this information and using it for analysis. In the Lab we show three different projections at the same scale to show the visual differences and including a table showing the difference in area among several counties.

We also learned how to properly utilize and choose color as well as the meanings each color represents and how to choose a color for each element. In addition we learned how to clip data and add it to the map to highlight the important information we wanted to show. But the most important part was working with the layout and how to use it arrange the essential element in a logical and visually appealing manner.
